Ridgeview Vineyard, East Sussex
Planted in 1995, the perfect site for vines essential for sparkling wine production was found in the foothills of the South Downs and the Ridgeview vineyard was born. Situated near the picturesque village of Ditchling, Ridgeview originally selected three clones of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier on three different rootstocks to allow them to explore which was best suited for the land.
The chalk and clay soils of the South Downs have proven to be a fantastic location for growing these classic varieties. The cool climate enables the grapes to retain high levels of natural acidity when they are fully ripe which is crucial to producing full flavoured sparkling wines. The vines have been meticulously managed for over 15 years. Instrumental in the care and attention to detail of the vineyard, the Vineyard Manager was awarded ‘Grower of the Year 2017’ and is extremely passionate about producing the very best grapes possible. Ridgeview wines have been served at Royal State Visits, Parliamentary Dinners and top Restaurants throughout the United Kingdom.
Placing English sparkling wines on the global stage, Ridgeview has been awarded multiple international trophies and accolades. Responsible for changing hearts and minds on the perception of English sparkling wine, Ridgeview has paved the way for global recognition of our thriving, yet still emerging industry. Here is a summary of their most proud achievements to date:
