Ridgeview Celebrate success with a Royal visit

Following on from their success of being crowned 'Best International Winemaker' at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, Ridgeview were delighted to welcome a visit from her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall.

Her Royal Highness, President of Wines of Great Britain since 2011, was given a tour of the vineyard and shown the work Ridgeview have been doing to increase their production capabilities, including their new £1.8m winery.

Ridgeview CEO Tamara Roberts expressed her pleasure after the visit “We are delighted to be included in the Royal visit to East Sussex which is testament to the ever-increasing profile of English sparkling wine and Ridgeview’s prominent position within the industry.”
The Duchess of Cornwall, familiar with the town of Ditchling since attending school in Plumpton, had fond memories of the area, especially since her father, Major Bruce Shand, was a wine merchant. Her Royal Highness commented “Can I say what a huge pleasure it is to be here today. Not just that it has bought me back to Sussex, bought me back to Ditchling, where I used to be at school … but one of my hugest pleasures is being President of Wines of GB”.
The Royal visit follows an incredible year for English and Welsh wine, with a record-breaking 15.6 million bottles produced and export sales doubling with demand now coming from over 40 countries.
We at Great British Wine Shop are delighted for Ridgeview, who are the first English wine makers in the history of the award to win 'International Winemakers of the Year' at the Effervescence LA conference alongside other leading global sparkling wine makers.
Ridgeview have cemented their status as pioneers in the historical rise of English sparkling wine, which was acknowledged with such a prestigious visit by Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall.
