English Wine Week: Saturday 25 May – Sunday 2 June
English Wine Week marks the start of summer
English Wine Week 2019 has started and the timing could not be better, as English and Welsh wines ride high on both the domestic and global stage.
English Wine Week and Welsh Wine Week is a national campaign organised by Wines of Great Britain (WineGB), designed to put the spotlight on the wines and vineyards of England and Wales. Timed to coincide with the popular late May bank holiday, it is an ideal opportunity for retailers, restaurateurs, hoteliers and bar-owners across the UK to promote English wines directly to their customers, forging and strengthening ties with suppliers and generating excitement amongst consumers and press by organising tastings, food and wine pairings, promotions and educational events.
“English Wine Week has become a popular and well-established campaign within the trade – it’s great to see what an effective promotional tool it is for retailers and the on-trade to highlight English wines to their customers,” comments Julia Trustram Eve, Marketing Manager of WineGB.
“Year-on-year, the campaign uptake and reach have grown consistently, through outlets but also media coverage and a massive increase in social media reach and engagement. It is creating a real buzz!
“What really resonates is that sales of English wine not only spike during the Week but sustain a good level of growth long after the Week is over. This really is a campaign that gets results and we are so delighted to be working with such a broad scope of retailers, wholesalers, on-trade and of course highly supportive wine producers,” adds Julia.
For the producers themselves, this May bank holiday marks the start of the tourist season. With the vines waking up, vineyards across the country are opening their doors to visitors who tour the vineyards, taste the wines ‘in situ’ and learn directly about the winemaking process.
“English Wine Week is a fantastic opportunity for us to get closer to our customers and consumers”, says Tamara Roberts, CEO of Ridgeview Estate. “We are working with our trade partners to offer consumers a chance to enjoy our wines at a host of innovative events including pop-up tastings with food and wine pairings and bespoke dinners. Guests can also enjoy hampers of Sussex produce here in the Ridgeview Wine Garden.
“The national campaign benefits everyone – hotel, restaurant and bar owners – who enjoy an increase in sales, the producers and of course, most importantly, the consumers themselves whilst raising the profile of our exciting industry.”
